Therapy Dogs
Are you interested in volunteering with your dog to make other people's lives better? Do you think your dog has the temperament and personality appropriate to become a therapy dog? Are you and your dog already a therapy dog team but would like some opportunities to practice the skills necessary for successful therapy visits? Do you think role-playing different situations commonly found when doing therapy work would help your ability to respond appropriately? Then this class is for you!
We will discuss the different therapy dog organizations; their differences and the opportunities they each present, then will practice the skills required to successfully pass the evaluations and help you find the appropriate evaluator to arrange testing. Once you have passed the test, we will continue to work on the skills necessary for successful visits. Volunteering as a therapy dog team can be highly rewarding for both you and your dog but developing and maintaining the necessary skills, finding the right opportunities and having support during and after the testing is important to the success of the team!
